The Jomon Shiba is a recreated dog breed based on the ancient hunting dogs of the Jomon culture in Japan, which lasted from 14,500 B.C. to 300 A.D. The Shiba Inu Hozonkai (SHIBAHO) association of dedicated Japanese breeders developed the Jomon Shiba to match the build of the Jomon dogs found in archaeological sites

Jomon is considered the "original" Shiba between these four dogs: Sanin, Shinshu, Mino and Jomon.
